Aggregate Production Goes Electric with Cedarapids in the PNW

Located in Olympia, Washington, Gilliardi runs one of the largest materials recycling facilities in the Puget Sound region. Their facility, which has both a recycling and an aggregate pit has been upgraded with a raft of new equipment supplied by Powerscreen of Washington, including a new electric drive Cedarapids CRC1150S cone and screen plant.

Bill and Paulette Gilliardi started Gilliardi Logging and Construction in 1969 and the company has been a cornerstone of the Pacific Northwest’s logging, land clearing, demolition, trucking, and materials manufacturing industries ever since. What began as a family-operated business has grown into a regional leader, now owned and operated by their son, Chad Gilliardi, who took over the reins in 2010 after joining the company in 1995.

Maximizing Efficiency with Powerscreen and Cedarapids

To maintain high production levels and meet the growing demand for recycled and processed materials, Gilliardi relies on an extensive lineup of equipment supplied by Powerscreen of Washington including a Cedarapids CRC1150S cone and screen plant, a Powerscreen Warrior 1800 scalping screen, and a fleet of conveyors from Powerscreen and MGL Engineering, ranging from 65 feet to 100 feet. In addition to these processing machines, two Bell B40 haul trucks have also been supplied, further enhancing their operational efficiency.

Their carefully designed setup allows them to produce three different products in a single pass, whilst maintaining a high-quality product shape and uniformity, all at high volume.

Breaking Down the Process

At the heart of their operation is the Powerscreen Warrior 1800 scalping screen, which is configured with a two-way split. This powerhouse machine is built to handle a wide range of feed material sizes, making it a critical part of their material sorting process. The side conveyor carries fill dirt, which is then moved to a stockpile with the help of an MGL conveyor, allowing the Gilliardi team to reduce the number of times each product is handled. The remaining larger material is directed to the Cedarapids CRC1150S cone and screen unit, ensuring all oversized material is re-processed without additional handling.

Once in the Cedarapids CRC1150S, the material is screened using a 6′ x 20′ triple-deck screen, creating multiple product sizes. The discharge conveyor outputs 1-inch minus gravel, while the fines conveyor produces ¼-inch to ½-inch stone, both of which are highly sought-after materials in the region. Thanks to their vast array of conveyors, Gilliardi can create even higher stockpiles.

Increased Production Rates

According to Stacy Jacobs, Site Supervisor, the addition of these machines from Powerscreen of Washington has significantly boosted their productivity. Jacobs shared, “Our production rates have increased dramatically since running these machines”.

Additionally, the partnership with Powerscreen of Washington has provided exceptional support, ensuring their equipment remains in peak working condition. Jacobs also praised their service team stating, “Powerscreen of Washington has been very easy to work with, service is great, and the parts department is excellent and very helpful.”

Committed to Recycling and Material Manufacturing

Gilliardi Logging and Construction is more than just a materials processing facility, they are at the forefront of sustainable recycling practices. Their Olympia location specializes in processing land-clearing debris, including concrete, asphalt, rock, brush, and wood, to produce high-quality construction and landscape materials. Their mission is clear, to continually improve their ability to meet the needs and exceed the expectations of their customers at every opportunity.

By leveraging their advanced crushing and screening equipment, they are able to reclaim and repurpose materials that would otherwise go to waste. This not only reduces environmental impact but also provides cost-effective, high-quality materials to contractors and builders throughout the region.

A Leader in the Pacific Northwest’s Material Industry

With decades of experience and state-of-the-art equipment, Gilliardi Logging and Construction continues to lead the industry in the PNW. Their ability to process and recycle materials not only benefits their business but also contributes to a more sustainable future for the region

By continuously improving their processes and leveraging top-tier equipment from Powerscreen of Washington, they ensure that their customers receive the highest quality materials for construction, landscaping, and infrastructure projects. With a focus on innovation and environmental responsibility, Gilliardi Logging and Construction remains a powerhouse in the industry, always pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.
